Part of our mission as PTO is to bridge communication between the school and families and encourage parent participation – Room Parents are an integral part of that mission.
Room Parents serve as the liaison for their classroom, ensuring families are aware of, and prepared for, upcoming events, celebrations and important dates. The communication provided by the Room Parent plays an important role in ensuring all students have an equitable opportunity to enjoy the enrichment provided by BES and the PTO.
Room Parent Responsibilities:
Communication: Serve as the liaison between the PTO, teachers and families within your classroom via email. Be "in the know" about upcoming school and PTO events and teacher needs and communicate this information regularly with your classroom families.
Harvest Festival – Friday, October 24 , 2025: Room parents oversee creation and coordination of their classroom’s Harvest Festival Booth. This includes creating the booth poster, set-up, clean-up, and additional event support as needed. Harvest Festival is BES’ largest event, drawing over 1,000 attendees, and the participation of Room Parents is critical to the event’s success.
Teacher Appreciation:Ensure all classroom families are provided the Teacher’s “Favorite Things List” in preparation for Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week, May 4 – 8, 2026. Additionally, coordinate teacher gifts for birthdays and holidays, as appropriate.
Auxiliary Duties: Each teacher has their own additional expectations and tasks for the Room Parent. This can include grading papers, sorting Friday Folders, coordinating activities, decorating, and more. You and your teacher will discuss and agree upon these responsibilities.
